Facing Your Giants

I just came back from our UNITE Outing, 'Feed Your Souls', hot, sweaty, itchy, and exhausted. I switched on my laptop and found an email from my lecturer chasing for my paper abstract to be presented at an international conference.
Immediately, I was pulled back to reality--one which was full of the 'giants' of stress. Here are just some of my thoughts from the movie we watched during our outing. :) The other outing photos will be up once I have them--we had a fun time at Taman Pertanian!
Facing the Giants is about a Christian Academy football team. We get a peek into the life of a coach who is facing challenges in his life, career, and marriage despite being a strong Christian. We witness how his desperation does not drive him into bottomless despair, but instead brings him to his knees, seeking God's will and trusting God to work all things for good in his life.
We learn about courage. About perseverance. About focusing on the journey ahead and ignoring the voices inside us and around us that tell us we cannot do it.
Are you facing the giants in your life?
As I begin to play a bigger role in building UNITE, I realize that giving my time and serving does not come naturally to me. As I begin to drown in assignments and other commitments, is so easy to give up serving. To back down. To lose faith in building disciples of Christ which will change the world.
But we can choose to face our giants. As the tagline says, never give up, never back down, never lose faith. Are you willing to take this journey?

FEED YOUR SOULS

Yes, it has been a stretching, tiring and challenging semester for everyone. Feel like it's time to take a break and do something exciting? Here's your chance!

Close your eyes for a minute (well, obviously after you read it..XD) and reflect...

Have you been growing healthily, or have you been starving and undernourished from all the spiritual junk food you have been stuffing your soul with?

Have you been at rest, knowing that your rest comes from God despite the chaos around you, or have you grown tired lately?

Perhaps it is time for all of us to feed our souls...

We will be having a one day outing on Friday, 1st May 2009 (Labour Day - A Day to REST) to Taman Pertanian. There will be a picnic breakfast, fun games, a time of meaningful sharing, kayaking, and a great movie. It will be a beautiful place for us to breathe in the fresh air and recharge again!

So mark this down on your planner:

  • Be ready at your house at 7.30am

  • In accordance with our theme, prepare your favourite breakfast food or a snack together with a verse to feed each other physically and spiritually

  • Wear sporty outfit and bring slippers, towel, and a spare change of clothes for the kayaking session

  • The whole outing will cost RM17 including lunch, tickets, and transportation

You are important to us and the outing won't be complete without you.

See you there!

A Fresh New Start

Sorry for being M.I.A. for so long guys. Things have been busy since our Christmas community project, and we kinda had a little break when everyone went back for their holidays in Jan. Now that college life is kicking in again, I guess it's time for an update.

This week, we are gonna have.......TWO FRESHIE PARTIES!!! One at Taylor's, and one at Monash. The purpose of these parties are to connect with the new students there, help them ease into college life, and to simply be their friends. Each freshie party is going to be spearheaded by UNITE members in those colleges.

I will leave you with a few thoughts:

1. How do you want to live your life this year?

2. Are you going to live a life that is purposeless, pleasurable, or a life that is large enough to bless the community around you?

Have a good week!

Memories on the Moon

Childhood dreams fulfilled. =)

During the 3 Moonites...

Highest number of mooncakes consumed at one event:
TWENTY
(excluding those given out!)

Number of lanterns lighted up:
70-80

We appreciate...
The people who prepared the food and games
Our friends who came and enjoyed themselves

We hope you learnt about many valued Chinese traditions, but more than that, we hope you took away the message that freedom and wholeness can be found in Christ.

We Miss Sufes Perak!

We had loads of fun at our UNITE outing at Sufes Perak! Although the place was hot and the hot spring was closed, we still enjoyed ourselves tremendously. In just 2 days,

1. We noticed each other's funny habits and we laughed until we had stomachaches when Zhi Wei tried to mimick us!

2. Max and Faith shared about 3 Ps: Purpose, Passion, and Priority. Reminded and encouraged us to live a larger life! (Remember to hand up your 6 months goal chart this Saturday!!)

3. We talked to each other and got to know each other so much better, including how some guys *ahem* will JUMP IN FRIGHT at the smallest insects!

We continue to look forward to building UNITE together!
